A Tangent was written as a response to Chopin's Nocturne No. 20 in C♯ minor. While studying his nocturnes, one particular chord in this piece stood out to me and became the harmonic bones of A Tangent, which grew from there mostly as an improvisation and turned into what you can hear today.
